NAL enters Season X | Its championship game receives an identity built for the league’s next era.

Hickory, NC — For nine playing seasons, the final game of the National Arena League season has determined one thing: who would be crowned champion.

Beginning with Season X in 2027, that game will have a name.

The National Arena League is proud to officially introduce THE NATIONAL BOWL as the new identity of the NAL Championship Game, establishing a permanent name for the league’s biggest stage and creating a championship property designed to grow alongside the NAL for years to come.

The creation of the National Bowl comes as the league prepares to celebrate its 10th playing season and reflects a larger effort to recognize the NAL’s history while continuing to build its identity for the future.

WHY THE NATIONAL BOWL?

The process began with a simple question: What should the biggest game in the National Arena League be called?

For nearly a decade, teams have competed throughout the season for the opportunity to reach the NAL Championship Game. The championship itself has produced memorable games, defining moments and champions whose names are now part of league history.

But as the NAL approached Season X, league leadership believed the championship deserved something more than a description.

It deserved an identity.

The goal was to create a name that was simple, recognizable and capable of representing the championship regardless of which teams, cities or venues were involved.

The National Bowl became the answer.

“Entering Season X gave us an opportunity to look at everything that has been built over the first nine playing seasons and ask what pieces of this league should become traditions for the next ten and beyond,” said NAL Commissioner Brandon Ikard. “Our championship game was at the top of that list and a great place to start." 

The word “National” connects the championship directly to the National Arena League while giving the event an identity that extends beyond any individual team or market. “Bowl” places the game within one of football’s most recognizable championship traditions while allowing the NAL to build its own history and meaning around the name.

Together, the National Bowl becomes more than the final game on the schedule.

It becomes the destination.

BUILDING A CHAMPIONSHIP TRADITION

Creating a permanent championship identity also gives the NAL an opportunity to build traditions that can carry from season to season.

Future players will not simply compete to reach the championship game. They will compete for the opportunity to play in the National Bowl.

Teams will be able to count National Bowl appearances and National Bowl championships as part of their history. Fans will associate the name with the league’s biggest moments. Partners and broadcasters will have a consistent championship property that can grow in recognition and value each season.

Most importantly, the name creates continuity.

Venues will change. Teams will change. Players and coaches will change.

The National Bowl remains.

“Our goal is to build something that becomes bigger every year,” Ikard continued. “Ten years from now, we want players to talk about winning a National Bowl. We want fans to remember National Bowl moments. We want appearing in and winning this game to carry its own meaning. You can only create that kind of tradition by giving it an identity and then allowing history to build around it.”

ONE NAME. A NEW IDENTITY EVERY YEAR.

While The National Bowl will remain the permanent name of the National Arena League Championship Game, the event itself will never be designed to look exactly the same from year to year.

Beginning with Season X, each National Bowl will receive its own theme, logo and visual identity, creating a championship brand unique to that particular season and moment in NAL history.

That identity will extend throughout the National Bowl experience, including event branding, digital media, broadcast presentation, merchandise, signage, championship week activities and other league assets.

The concept allows the NAL to create something that is both permanent and constantly evolving.

The National Bowl is the tradition.

Each year tells a different chapter of its story.

Over time, the individual logos and identities will create a visual history of the championship — allowing fans to immediately associate a particular National Bowl with the teams, players, location and moments that defined it.

A player who participated in National Bowl X will forever be connected to that identity.

The next group of players will create the story of National Bowl XI.

Then National Bowl XII.

And the history continues to build.

One championship. One tradition. A new identity every year.

HONORING THE FIRST NINE SEASONS

While the National Bowl identity officially begins with Season X, the league’s championship history does not begin again.

The first nine playing seasons remain the foundation on which the National Bowl is being built.

Those championships, teams, players and moments represent the road that brought the NAL to this point. Season X is not intended to replace that history, but rather to mark the beginning of the next chapter.

The introduction of the National Bowl is part of the NAL’s continued effort to strengthen its league-wide identity, create recognizable properties and traditions, and provide additional value for its teams, fans, media partners and corporate partners.

Beginning in 2027, every NAL season will ultimately lead to one stage.

Two teams will earn the opportunity.

One will leave as champion.
